Why Hong Kong is a top location, especially for Lawyers
Hong Kong is considered to have one of the most important Stock Exchanges in the world, and the Hong Kong Dollar is one of the top 5 traded currencies. Many global banks have major operations in Hong Kong, and the island boasts one of the busiest shipping ports in the world. Consequently, a large portion of the legal roles available in Hong Kong involve finance, banking, compliance and cross-border M&A, both for ‘western’ trained lawyers and their local counterparts.
Hong Kong has one of the most mature and highly regarded legal systems in the world, following the common law system of the UK. This gives assurance to businesses that they can operate in a safe environment where individual and commercial rights are upheld and safeguarded. A career move to Hong Kong can also be a spring board to other Asian markets, should one ultimately wish to end up in a developing jurisdiction but lack regional experience.
What are the benefits of living in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is consistently among the top-ranked countries to live in because of its culture, surroundings and career opportunities. In 2015, Hong Kong was named the world’s freest economy for the 21st year in a row. It continues to embrace the globalisation of trade and services and is an active participant in numerous regional and global associations.
Top places to visit:
There are places in Hong Kong you wouldn’t expect to see in such as populated area. That’s why we have created a list of the top 4 places to visit in Hong Kong:
1. Kowloon Walled City Park
In such a built-up area you wouldn’t expect there to be green space? Well you would be wrong! The Kowloon Walled gardens offers a mini slice of park heaven offering workers the chance to spend their free time (and some lunch times) in this idyllic spot.
2. The Whampoa (the boat that is on dry land)
Sounds a little confusing but this an actual thing. Anchored in the concrete ocean of Hong Kong is The Whampoa, a commercial centre which commemorates the city’s maritime heritage, as well as providing high-end shopping!
3. Noah's Ark
One of the weirdest sites you will see in Hong Kong but worth a visit all the same. Nestled underneath Hong Kong’s Tsing Ma Bridge is a gigantic full-size replica of Noah’s Ark, the famed biblical ship that rescued pairs of living animals from a global flood.
4. Dine at a cartoon restaurant
Do you have a favourite cartoon? The chances are Hong Kong will have a themed restaurant for it. The most famous cartoon restaurant is Hello Kitty Chinese Cuisine, a dim sum restaurant where down to the very last custard bun and shrimp dumpling bears Hello Kitty’s face and trademark pink bow.
